NEW
YORK RANGERS
WEB PAGE REVIEW
Saturday October 29th, 2001 1015NZT
In
the second of a series of articles, we look at the growing use of
web pages to attract and inform vast leagues of ice hockey fans
around the globe.
In
the National Hockey League, web sites of all teams are linked back
to the nhl.com site, and this allows them to link servers and third
parties for ease in product sales, stats, radio & video links,
etc.
Loading
Speed:
A little slow, but a lot of that has to do with the sheer amount
of information and very intense graphics that are loaded upon entry.
If there is a bell or whistle that can be used on a sports web page,
you can be sure that the NYR make use of it.
Graphics:
Just outstanding. Every page is linked with a solid graphic that
ties in the overall look to the front page, and the photos are all
of a very high graphics quality. Images are solid yet dynamic, and
reflect the longstanding traditions and proud history of NYR.
Ease
of Use:
Once the opening page has loaded, page flow is handed with reasonable
speed. Icons are well thought out, and an inexperienced surfer would
be able to navigate this site with ease.
General
Comments:
From interactive fan polls to purchasing game day tickets, from
live radio to ask your favorite Ranger a question you've always
wanted to ask, you can do it all at newyorkrangers.com
Fans
helped raise $215,000 for the Twin Towers Fund this season, Mark
Messier was presented with a deceased fire chief's helmet and a
preseason game was suspended after two periods so that fans could
listen to President Bush giving a speech on the September 11th attacks.
This helps to illustrate just how much a part of New York life the
Broadway Blues really are.
Current
standing for the NYR are not listed on the front page, as per the
last three seasons - could be due to the fact that NYR haven't made
the post season in the last four years. The Rangers are currently
third in the North East division with 18pts, and have a 8-0-1-1
record, 36 goals for and 21 against.
