FAB
FIVE LEAD THE RODENTS INTO 2002
Thursday March 17th, 2002 0845NZT
Bell,
Conrad, Hayes, Greene and Williamson - their combined five hundred
and seventy nine points and many years of experience will lead the
Rink Rats into the upcoming 2002 Canterbury Ice Hockey Association
Senior A Contact league season.
Ian
Bell is without doubt the most important leader
on the squad - the man is a scoring machine, and
has captured the Rodents MVP title for the last
two seasons running, and looks good for a three-peat.
Daniel
Conrad is the 'Swiss Miss-ile' who can lauch a bomb anywhere
from the blue-line in. Able to play both ends of the rink, Conrad
recorded two short-handed goals in the same game last year.
Ernie
Hayes has always lead by example, and was this last season voted
the CIHA top 'Player's Player', and must have only narrowly lost
on out the 'Defenseman' of theYear vote to Tim Hindman of the Mustardmen.
Stan
Greene chips in from the right wing, more of a pest than a scorer,
but his organisational skills benefit all the players in the team.
And
last but not least, John Williamson
has long been known for his stick-handing and general ability to
play like an egg on a hot frying pan - he never stays in one place
for long.
Can
they once again get the lead out of their old legs - our should
they swap their scoring sticks for walking sticks ?
Only
time will tell, but given that they have all played twenty years
or more, they are looking good for another twenty. Although perhaps
a little slower than they once where, you can bet that they will
be around to contest the finals and show that the 'Fab Five' still
know what to do with the puck.
